The Sherman M4A3E2 "Jumbo" was a short series of well-armored tanks numbering just 254 units. The Shermans were armed with a 75mm gun mounted on a modified M62 mount. The Jumbo with its nickname "Cobra King" was the one to receive the 76mm gun as well as the coaxial machine gun. It was issued to the 37th Tank Battalion at the end of October 1944. The tank became famous during the German offensive in the winter of 1944 in the Ardennes. It was also the first to break through the German lines and reach the soldiers of the 101st Airborne Division surrounded in Bastogne, Belgium. To commemorate this momentous event, the tank's crew painted a special graffiti, which is reproduced by the COBI with permanent pad prints. The further fate of the tank is also no less exciting. Some sources say that the tank took part in Operation Hammelburg, General Patton's secret mission, where it was destroyed in March 1945. For many years, the wreckage of the tank was exhibited on war memorials with incorrect markings. It wasn't until 2001 that military chaplain Keith Goode contributed to discovering the true nature of the wreckage. The tank has since been painstakingly restored at The Patton Museum and is now located in Fort Benning, Georgia. Additionally, in Bastogne, a properly painted replacement for the famous Sherman "King Cobra" is displayed.
From a set of 800 COBI construction blocks you can build the most famous of the Sherman M4A3E2 JUMBOs, the Cobra King, which was the first to arrive triumphantly in Bastogne. The model contains elements covered with high-quality prints that do not wear off even during intensive use. Particularly noteworthy is the very characteristic graffiti painted by the tank crew. The design uniquely reflects the original shapes of its historical inspiration. Moving wheels and working tracks, opening hatches, access to a block engine, movable turret and barrel, five figures, a dog and ruins with Kilroy's historic graffiti guarantee the satisfaction of owning this piece of history! The set is complemented by a limited numbered plate and a certificate with a handwritten signature of the President of COBI. The Sherman Jumbo is also a great collector's set, just right for people who have experience in building more complex sets. A must for lovers of military and history.
